Each year with the guidance and support of many dedicated volunteer catechists, around 150 children, from preschool through junior high, learn about their faith on Sunday mornings from late September to mid-May. Teens assist catechists with our preschoolers.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word (CLOW)
children's hands We invite your children (K-6th grades) to participate in our CLOW program at 9:30AM Mass. This program is offered year-round except during summer. No registration is required, and it's free.

Children are dismissed just after the opening prayers and go with an adult presider to the Parish Center Chapel to hear the Word proclaimed and explained in more age-appropriate language. During CLOW our children's choir sings. The children return during the Preparation of the Gifts.

Parents are welcome to accompany their children to the Parish Center Chapel during the Liturgy of the Word and then return with them for the Liturgy of the Eucharist.

Note: CLOW is on summer hiatus and will resume the week after Labor Day, on Sunday,

An Invitation to Share Your Faith
Drawing of St. Francis church building exteriorWhen we are baptized as Catholic Christians, we are called to share our faith. You are invited to live out that call in a formal way by teaching children about God's love for us. Some different ways to serve include:

Catechist (Teachers): Help as a co-Cathechist to teach with, or alternate with, another Catechist in the Third of Fifth grade classes from 11:00-11:55am on Sunday morning. If you are a teacher or former teacher, great! If not, great! We provide good teacher manuals and training, plus an inservice for all catechists on Thursday, September 9, 2010, 6:30-8:30pm, so you can be prepared for this opportunity.

Catechist for Cathecumens (Children): Serve as an extra volunteer covering "a month of Sundays" about three times a year (about 10-12 Sunday mornings a year) during the 9:30am Mass to discuss the Sunday Readings with children who are preparing to receive the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation) at the Easter Vigil.

Catechist for Catechumens (Second Year): Serve for about an hour and a half a month from September through April on Selected Sundays, Noon-1:30pm.

CIC Catechists (Teachers):

Monday Nights: We especially need a catechist for our second-year Catechumens (only five children this year) one Monday night a month, beginning in September, for an hour-long class. These children are preparing to receive the Sacraments of Initiation at the Easter Vigil, April 23, 2011.

Sunday Dismissal: We need someone to meet with these young people for about two-three "months of Sundays" (about 10-12 Suindays a year) during 9:30am Mass (after the homily) to discuss the Sunday Readings in the months leading up to their initiation into the Church.

Interested in helping with CIC? Please contact Georgie Saydak (443-8084 x112 or GeorgieS@stfrancisparish.com).

Our Tots Need You
Drawing of St. Francis church building exteriorLike to help care for really young ones? We especially need assistance in our Nursery Program during the 9:30 Mass. Nursery involves child care and NOT teaching; while we have teen helpers, we need a couple of adults who can work in Nursery about once or twice a month. you share the responsibilities and have a chance to make new friends. This is a ministry or caring, not just for the children, but also for their parents, who can be free to participate Mass while their little ones are cared for. Please consider helping and contact Georgie (443-8084 x112 georgies@stfrancisparish.com.)
