The cornerstone for our current church building was laid on October 18, 1908. So, beginning in October 2008, we are planning a Centennial Celebration of our church.

St. Francis of Assisi Parish’s Building Centennial celebration promises a year of honoring our parish and our community.

View our Centennial Events Timeline which includes events from October 4, 2008, through October 4, 2009. Be sure to mark your calendar so you won't miss any of our celebration events. And watch for developing details in our weekly church bulletins, and right here on our website.

Enjoy your own and share copies of this beautiful book which celebrates the Centennial of the building and places our sacred place within the history of the city of Sacramento.

  • A Century of Grace is a great gift idea for commemmorating marriages, baptisms, and new Catholics or as a treasure for people interested in Sacramento’s history/architecture.

  • Purchase your copies now for your own enjoyment, for gifting, & for donating to libraries & organizations.

  • A Copy For All
Thank you to everyone who has purchased a copy of our Centennial book at the list price of $50. During the process of preparing the book, costs kept rising and so the final cost of the book priced it out of the reach of many of our parishioners. We have come up with the following two plans to make the book available to everyone:
    • Discount of 50%. The book is available for $25 (plus tax) until the end of Eastertide (May 31).
    • Centennial Book Fund. You may donate money to this fund to help make it possible to offer the book at the reduced price. All donations will be tax-deductible. Thank you for your generosity.

St. Francis of Assisi Church
Centennial Prayer

Most high and glorious God,
You are good, all good, the highest good!

For one hundred years you have blessed St. Francis of Assisi Church,
and we praise you, we bless you, and we thank you
for the countless men and women through the years
whose faith and vision and sacrifice
have helped to build this house of prayer, this dwelling place of God,
this Church…

A Church where the dignity of each is respected,
where one can feel at home, say what one thinks,
a Church of freedom.

A Church that welcomes without judging,
that forgives without condemning,
a Church of mercy.

A Church that listens before it speaks,
that admits its mistakes and learns from them,
a Church of wisdom.

A Church where the daring to do something new
is stronger than the habit of doing what has been done before,
a Church of possibility.

A Church that reaches out to care for the least among us,
the poor, the marginalized, and the alienated,
a Church of justice.

A Church where the faithful gather, the seekers of God too,
where all are nourished by Word and sacraments,
a Church of healing.

Rooted in your Spirit
may we face our future with the same hope and vision and faith,
as we commit ourselves to a new century of service
at St. Francis Church.

Like Francis and Clare, may we live humbly and simply,
as instruments of your grace, your peace.

We pray in the name of the One who is the same
Yesterday, Today, and Forever,
Jesus Christ.

AMEN

Sing Joyfully To Our God!
singers and musical notes If you have ever thought about singing at one of the St. Francis liturgies, here is your chance to give it a try! We are looking for singers at all levels of ability to be a part of the Music Ministry.

2008-2009 promises to be a special time for music ministers as we celebrate the centennial of our church building. We are planning to sing some new and exciting music for a special concert to celebrate the event. We especially need altos, tenors and basses (sopranos are always welcome too).

If you can carry a tune and can regularly attend rehearsals and liturgies, we will train you to be part of this rewarding ministry.
