Our Adult Faith Formation Advisory Committee continues to provide creative and informative opportunities for the adults of our parish to deepen and enrich their faith. Our parish provides meeting space and staff support to groups that serve a variety of adult faith formation needs and experiences.

We have two trained spiritual directors and also provide space and support to individuals interning in nationally-recognized Spiritual Direction Training Programs.

Moral Choices: Love, Money, Power and Corporate Greed
Were you interested in the films but unable to come to the screenings or maybe you'd just like to watch them again. The DVDs from the Summer Film Festival: The Golden Door—Stories of Immigration are now available in our parish library for you to check out.

Movie Titles/Summaries:

  • Million (PG13)
    Millions What happens when two young boys stumble upon a cache of cash and tell no one? Damian and his brother, Anthony find a satchel filled with British pounds. With the country just days away from switching to the Euro, they must quickly find a way to spend and share their new found wealth. Damian experiences a series of visitations from Saints Francis, Clare and Peter. he wants to give it to the poor. Anthony, on the other hand, aims to spend it on his own heart's desires.




  • A Place in the Sun (NR)
    A Place in the Sun Nominated for nine Academy Awards, this film is based on Theodore Dreiser's classic novel An American Tragedy. Dirt-poor George Eastman (Montgomery Clift) lands himself a factory job and has a tryst with co-worker Alice (Shelly Winters) to combat his lo9neliness. But he forgets the uncultured Alice when he becomes smitten with a stunning socialist (Elizabeth Taylor). Alice can't forget George, however, because she's expecting his baby. Their dilemma sets off a course of events that can only end in tragedy.



  • After the Wedding (R)
    After the Wedding To save the failing orphanage he runs in India, Danish transplant Jacob Petersen returns to his homeland to meet a self-indulgent businessman who's offered a generous donation—and represents everything the noble-minded Jacob abhors. Complicating matters further are the unusual strings attached to this so-called gift. As this Oscar-nominated emotional powerhouse of a drama unfolds, a series of long-held secrets are revealed that changes everyone. (English and Danish subtitles.)


  • The Constant Gardner (R)
    The Constant Gardner Justin Quale (Ralph Fiennes), a member of the British high Commission based in Africa, launches a quest for the truth and begins his own international investigation when his wife (Rachel Weisz, in an Oscar-winning turn) is murdered. Not even the rumors of his wife's infidelity will stop him from uncovering what really happened to her, and a government linked pharmaceutical company conspiracy that is much more dangers than he ever imagined.

  • Chasing Freedom - R

    Chasing Freedom Oscar and Golden Globe nominee, Juliette Lewis, stars as a New York Attorney who won't let anyone stand in the way of her success. When she accepts a pro bono case involving Meena, a Young Afghan dissident seeking asylum in the United States after years of oppression under the Taliban, she finds her corporate dreams replaced by a growing sense of idealism. All Meena wants is freedom, and her lawyer is her only chance at getting a taste of it. If she fails, Meena will be returned to Afghanistan and face certain death.


  • The Visitor — PG 13

    The Visitor Widowed college professor Walter Vale (Richard Jenkins, in an Oscar-nominated role) finds himself drifting through life. He is drawn to a different rhythm when he discovers an immigrant couple, Tarek and Zainab, squatting in his Manhattan flat and becomes wrapped up in their lives. Tarek's mother appears when Tarek is thrown into a detention center and develops a profound connection with Walter that will change his life forever.




  • Golden Door — PG 13

    Golden Door In this sweeping immigrant's tale, Sicilian widower Salvatore begins a transatlantic odyssey to pursue a better life in America at the dawn of the 20th century. During the perilous journey he meets a beautiful and worldly English woman and an unexpected romance blossoms. He survives the harrowing voyage only to suffer more hardship and humiliation on Ellis island. This film is a homage to our ancestors who sacrificed everything to gain a better life for us all. (Subtitles and English)


  • The Invisible Chapel — Not Rated

    The Invisible Chapel For over twenty years a migrant chapel remained invisible to the wealthy residents of a San Diego, CA neighborhood. Every Sunday, parish volunteers provided humanitarian assistance and held a church service for over one hundred impoverished agricultural, construction and services industry workers from Mexico. Local neighbors, along with the San Diego Minutemen and a Talk-Radio host clashed with the mostly undocumented immigrant congregation. The ensuing conflict forced the immigrants and volunteers out of their sacred space and ultimately caused the demolition of their place of worship.

Conscious Living For Men
2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month
7:00-9:00pm in the Assisi Room

The men at St. Francis Parish are invited to explore their lives and the lives of those around them as spiritual quests into the mystery of being, and to serve our community with a deeper love and understanding.

Assisi Room is located in Brunsman Hall (behind the Church).

Looking for a Good Book? The St. Francis Library is open every Friday from Noon to 3PM and on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month from 8:30-11:30AM.

During these times, a library volunteer is available to help you with your reading selection. The rest of the time, the Library is open on a self-service basis whenever the Parish Center offices are open (M-F: 8AM-5PM).

The library is located in the Parish Center (across K Street from the Church).
